About Real Gravy

Real Gravy is 312 gravy recipes, written out properly, with nothing in front of them.

Why bother

Gravy is the one thing on a roast dinner that nobody writes down. It gets made from memory, or from a tub of granules, or from whatever the packet said. When people do go looking for a recipe they end up scrolling past four paragraphs about somebody's grandmother before they get to the ingredients.

So this site does the opposite. Ingredients near the top, method in plain English, and the technique explained where it actually matters. Metric first because that is what British kitchens use, imperial in brackets because plenty of people still cook in pints and ounces.

How the recipes are written

  • Real quantities and real timings. If onions need forty minutes to caramelise, the recipe says forty minutes.
  • Every recipe stands on its own. You should never have to open a second page to cook one.
  • Allergens listed for the recipe as written, and diet labels only where the recipe genuinely qualifies.
  • Nutrition figures are estimates per serving, not laboratory values.
  • Alcohol recipes always give a swap that actually works.

What is not here

No sign up wall. No newsletter popup covering the method. No autoplaying video. No affiliate links dressed up as recommendations. If a brand is named it is because that is the product the recipe uses.

A note on labels

Allergen and diet information describes the recipe as written on this site. Manufacturers change their recipes more often than we do. If you are cooking for someone with an allergy or coeliac disease, read the packet in your own hand every single time.
